Dr Premala Paramanathan

Obstetrician, Gynaecologist

Originally from Malaysia, Premala completed her undergraduate medical education in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) with honours. She then pursued Specialist Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Dublin and worked across various tertiary maternity services.

Premala undertook a one year Fellowship Training in Gynaecology Oncology in the Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne in 2011, extending her experience in major complex Gynaecology surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery - her main area of interest. As a certified Colposcopist with the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, Premala can provide colposcopy services to women with abnormal cervical screening tests and offer outpatient LLETZ treatment.

She is passionate about working in a multidisciplinary setting which includes primary care and allied health such as physiotherapy to provide optimum care for women with chronic conditions such as endometriosis.

Premala is currently Head of Department in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St John of God Midland, which enables her to be actively involved in research and audit in various aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and to focus on the delivery of high quality, safe care that empowers women.
