As well as a One For Women Midwife specialising in Perinatal Loss, Kristy also works at St John of God Mt Lawley.
In 2014 Kristy started “A Midwife’s Gift” aiming to fundraise $4,000 to purchase a Cold Cuddle Cot for SJOG Mt Lawley. Cold Cuddle Cots are used by families who have experienced the loss of their baby through stillbirth. They allow the families to spend time with their baby without needing to visit the morgue.
A Midwife’s Gift has now raised almost $110,000 and has purchased 21 cots for WA hospitals and 1 in Queensland.
Kristy brokered a partnership with the WA Health Department who purchased 8 Cuddle Cot packages for regional WA hospitals and allowed Kristy to visit these centres for the cot donation and provide Education and Professional Development to staff.
Kristy was a double finalist for the Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards in 2015 and won the Consumer Appreciation category.
She was a WA Finalist for the Pride of Australia Medal in 2015 and HESTA’s Nurse of the Year finalist in 2015 and again Nurse of the Year finalist in 2020.
